ICAR KVK Dimapur conducts Farmers’ Seminar on Sustainable Agriculture and Khet Bachao Abhiyan

        ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur organized a Farmers’ Seminar on “Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Conservation: World Environment Day 2026 (Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For our Future)” cum Khet Bachao Abhiyan Campaign on 5th June 2026 at the KVK Conference Hall, Dimapur.
        Welcome address and brief introduction of the programme was delivered by Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, KVK Dimapur. In her address, she highlighted the importance of sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation, especially in the context of climate change and the need to protect natural resources for future generations. The seminar was graced by Smt. Amenla Longchar, Deputy Director, State Horticulture Nursery, Govt. of Nagaland, as the Chief Guest and Dr. Homeswar Kalita, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre as the Special Guest. Shri Honito Sema, BJP Mandal President, Ghaspani II attended the programme as special invitee. All the guests shared short speeches encouraging farmers to adopt eco-friendly, sustainable farming practices and briefed about the ongoing National wide programme Khet Bachao Abhiyan Campaign that will be conducted till June 30.


        During the technical session, Dr. Akshay Ujjwal, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) delivered a talk on Organic Farming, while Dr. Marneni Divya Sree, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension) spoke on Natural Farming Certification system and explained the importance, procedures and opportunities associated with natural farming certification. As part of the method demonstration session, Ms. E. Lireni Kikon conducted a practical demonstration on seed treatment in pigeon pea, highlighting its importance in disease management and healthy crop establishment. Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Breeding) demonstrated the use of Leaf Colour Chart in maize for efficient nitrogen management and balanced fertilizer application.
        The programme also included distribution of agricultural inputs like row markers, battery operated sprayers, and Assam lemon saplings, to the participating farmers. The programme was chaired by Ms. E. Lireni Kikon, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection). The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Moanaro, Programme Assistant, followed by field visit. The seminar was attended by progressive farmers from six villages namely Medziphema, Bade, Kukidolong, Tsuma, New Chumoukedima and Lotovi. Prior to the seminar, a plantation drive was conducted at Government Middle School, Kukidolong village. During which, forest tree saplings were distributed among the students to promote environmental awareness and encourage tree plantation activities among the younger generation.
